Hamad Abdulla presentation 1

 

The Bahrain Historical and Archeological Society in Jufair, Kingdom of Bahrain hosted a talk entitled, “Overview of the life and times of Samuel Zewmer.”  The talk was presented by Hamad Abdulla on 29 May 2013 and was marked as the final talk of the society’s 59th cultural season.

 

The talk covered various milestones in the life and times of the American Missionary Samuel Marinus Zwemer (1867 – 1952).  Zwemer was one of the founders of the Arabian Mission.  He is also a leading figure in international missionary efforts especially that that targeted the Arabian Peninsula in the golden age of the missionary movement which stretched from the 19th century to the early decades of the 20th century.

Overview of British Advisors Role in Bahrain

 

Hamad Abdulla presented a talk on 31 January 2013 entitled, “Overview of British Advisor’s role in Bahrain”, at the premises of the University of East Anglia, Norwich, United Kingdom.  The talk provided a general overview of Sir Charles Belgrave and his role in the politics of Bahrain and the state’s development, as he worked as an advisor to the government of Bahrain from 1926 to 1957.

 

The main points the talk covered were as follows.

 

1-    Overview of Bahrain socio-political history.

2-    British – Bahraini relations 1820 – 1971.

3-    Overview of the life of Sir Charles Belgrave.

4-    The Advisor’s role in the development of Bahrain.

5-    British Advisor’s opponents and Nasserism.

6-    The Suez Crisis and end of Belgrave’s tenure.

Sir Charles Belgrave’s experience in Siwa Oasis

 

Hamad Abdulla presented a talk on 26 December 2012 entitled, “Sir Charles Belgrave’s experience in Siwa Oasis”, at the premises of the Bahrain Historical and Archeological Society in Jufair, Kingdom of Bahrain.  The talk covered Belgrave’s first administrative post in the Egyptian Siwa Oasis in 1920 prior to his appointment as an advisor to the Bahraini government in 1926.

 

At the end of the talk Abdulla was awarded with the society’s shield which was presented to him by the society’s president Dr. Isa Amin.
